Pinkysan’s First Day

Part 1: A Surprise at the Gate

The sun was high in the sky on a warm, golden afternoon. In a quiet neighborhood, Lyn was enjoying the peace of her beautiful garden. The garden was her favorite place to be. She sat on a comfortable wooden bench, resting her hand on the head of her loyal companion, Star.

Star was a magnificent Shiba Inu. With his thick, golden-orange fur and his curled, fluffy tail, he looked very strong and brave. However, everyone who knew Star knew he was a "gentle giant." He was incredibly kind to everyone he met. He sat quietly by Lyn’s feet, his tongue lolling out in a happy dog smile.

A few meters away, the sound of splashing water filled the air. Linda, the cheerful girl who lived and worked with Lyn, was busy with the garden chores. She was wearing her favorite purple blouse and maong pants, moving gracefully between the rows of tulips and daisies. Splash, splash! The water from her watering can glittered in the sunlight, sounding just like a soft spring rain.

Suddenly, the peaceful atmosphere changed. Star’s triangular ears twitched and stood straight up. He stopped panting and tilted his head to the side, looking toward the heavy iron gate at the front of the house.

Mew... Mew...

It was a tiny, high-pitched sound, almost like a whistle.

"Linda, did you hear that?" Lyn asked, standing up from the bench. "Is that a bird trapped in the bushes?"

Linda stopped her work and put down the watering can. She listened intently. The sound came again—a weak, lonely cry. Linda walked slowly to the big iron gate. She looked down at the cobblestone ground, and her eyes widened in surprise. There, huddled in the dark shadows of the gatepost, was a very small, very thin kitten.

"Oh! Lyn, come quickly! Look at this!" Linda cried out. She reached down and carefully scooped the tiny creature into her hands. The kitten was a calico, with patches of orange, black, and white fur. It was so small that it could fit perfectly in the palm of Linda's hand, just like a fuzzy tennis ball.

Linda walked back to the bench and gently placed the kitten into Lyn’s lap. The poor little thing was shivering with cold and hunger, but when it looked up, its green eyes were wide and bright with a spark of life.

Lyn’s heart melted instantly. She smiled warmly and held the kitten close to her chest to share her warmth.

"Don’t be afraid, little one," Lyn whispered softly, stroking the kitten’s head with one finger. "You don't have to be lonely anymore. Your name is Pinkysan. You are part of our family now."

Star walked over and gave Pinkysan’s ear a tiny, gentle lick. The story of their family was just beginning.
