The Garden's Velvet Blanket

The morning sun tried its best to peek through the fluffy spring clouds, casting a fresh, golden glow over the backyard. After days of heavy downpours, the air felt crisp and alive. Pretty Lyn—with her classic neat bangs and long, light brown hair—marched out into the yard filled with energy. She was ready for action, wearing a comfortable white t-shirt under her favorite denim maong jumper.

Right behind her came her loyal workout partners: Star, the cute Akita Inu, and Pinkysan, the calico cat. The two pets looked absolutely adorable, both dressed in bright pink dresses that fluttered as they walked.

"Alright, team! Let's get moving!" Lyn cheered, reaching her arms high above her head to stretch. "It is so important to exercise every single morning. It wakes up your muscles, refreshes your mind, and keeps your body healthy!"

Just then, Linda stepped out into the garden wearing comfortable sports pants and a vibrant yellow-green t-shirt. She took a deep breath of the fresh air and smiled. "I completely agree, Lyn! Count me in," Linda said, joining the lineup.

For the next ten minutes, the garden was a scene of pure joy. Lyn and Linda did jumping jacks and side stretches, while Star happily wagged her tail, hopping up and down on her front paws. Pinkysan tried her best to copy them, rolling onto her back in her pink dress and stretching her paws toward the sky like a little gymnast.

As Lyn bent down for a deep hamstring stretch, something near the base of the old stone lantern caught her eye. She gasped softly and gestured for everyone to come closer.

"Look at this, everyone," Lyn whispered, pointing at the ground.

Covering the soil and the old garden stones was a thick, velvety carpet of bright green moss. It didn't look like ordinary grass; it was glowing with an intense, emerald brilliance, covered in tiny, sparkling droplets of water.

"Wow, it looks like a miniature jungle!" Linda exclaimed, leaning down.

"Exactly! Welcome to the moss kingdom," Lyn smiled, happy to share a bit of nature science. "Since it rained so hard last night, the moss absorbed all that water like a giant, natural sponge. Unlike regular plants, mosses don't have deep roots to pull water from the soil. Instead, they absorb moisture and nutrients directly through their tiny leaves. That’s why they look so stunning, plump, and vibrantly green right after a rainstorm!"

Star tilted her head, sniffing the damp, earthy scent of the velvet carpet, while Pinkysan tapped a soft patch with her paw, completely mesmerized.

After their educational pause, the group took a well-deserved break to drink some cool water from their bottles. But nature had other plans. Plop! Plop! Large, heavy raindrops suddenly began to fall from the sky again. The rainy season wasn't quite finished yet!

"Oh no, it’s pouring! Run inside!" Linda yelled, laughing as she dashed toward the veranda.

Everyone scrambled for the house, but Pinkysan stopped for a quick second. With a swift flick of her claws, she carefully scooped up a tiny, loose clump of the beautiful green moss before running through the door. Once inside, the little calico cat sat safely by the window, holding her tiny piece of the moss kingdom and staring intently at its bright color.

Meanwhile, Star collapsed right onto her soft rug bed in the living room. Her tongue lolled out, and within seconds, she let out a loud, adorable doggie snore. The morning workout had completely zapped her energy!

Lyn and Linda sat at the kitchen table, watching the sleeping Akita Inu.

"Well, someone clearly isn't used to our morning exercise routine yet," Linda giggled, pointing at Star.

Lyn laughed quietly, wrapping a warm towel around her shoulders. "She did her best! Tomorrow, we'll just have to make it a little shorter." Safe and cozy inside, the friends enjoyed the cozy rhythm of the rain, thankful for the healthy start to their day and the beautiful green secrets of their garden.
