The Great Neighborhood Flower Parade

2026-05-05

The neighborhood was buzzing with excitement. Every year, the local community held a Flower Parade to celebrate the peak of spring. Families, shops, and even local pets joined the long walk through the streets to show off their beautiful garden blossoms.

"Today is the day! Everyone, let’s get ready!" Lyn shouted. Lyn looked very professional in her light blue blouse and dark blue slacks. Her light brown hair and bangs were neatly tucked under a straw sun hat. Linda was ready for hard work, too, wearing a comfortable light brown blouse and her favorite maong pants.

The stars of the show, however, were Star and Pinkysan.

"If we are going to win the 'Best Pet Entry,' we need to be creative," Linda said. She brought out a small wooden garden wagon with four sturdy wheels.

Lyn and Linda spent two hours decorating the wagon. they covered the wooden sides with bright yellow tulips and purple hydrangeas. Then, they turned their attention to the animals. Star, the big Akita Inu, sat very patiently while Lyn draped a "flower cape" over her back. It was made of hundreds of deep red peonies. Pinkysan, the calico cat, wore a delicate collar made of tiny white daisies.

"You both look like flower royalty!" Lyn giggled.

The parade began at noon. Lyn took the handle of the wagon and began to pull it carefully. Linda sat on the very edge of the wagon next to the pets to make sure they didn't jump out.

"Neighborhood Flower Parade! Contest today!" Lyn called out to the cheering neighbors.

As they rolled down the street, the crowds clapped. "Look at the big dog! She is covered in flowers!" a little boy shouted. Star sat tall and proud. She felt very important, like a queen on a throne. Woof! I’m heavy and... so flowery! she thought, wagging her tail.

However, a funny problem started to happen. Because there were so many real flowers on the wagon, the local bees and butterflies thought the wagon was a giant moving garden! A large, fuzzy bumblebee began to circle Star’s nose. Star’s eyes went wide. She tried to be brave, but her nose started to twitch.

Twitch... twitch... ACHOO!

Star let out a giant sneeze. The force of the sneeze was so strong that dozens of red peony petals flew into the air like colorful snow! Some petals landed on Linda’s head, and one landed right on Pinkysan’s nose.

Pinkysan looked at the petal on her nose and blinked. Mew? Daisies... for me? she wondered, looking confused.

Linda laughed so hard she almost fell off the wagon. "Oops... too flowery! The daisies are under the... peonies! It’s a bit of a flower mix-up!"

Despite the "petal explosion," the crowd loved it. They thought it was a special magic trick! When the parade reached the park, the judges gave Lyn’s team the "Most Joyful Entry" award.

As they walked home, the wagon was a little lighter and the pets were a little messier, but their hearts were full of happiness. It was a wonderful, flowery day in the neighborhood that no one would ever forget.
