A Mother's Day Miracle in Nara
Today was a very special Sunday in Nara. Not only was the sun shining brightly over the ancient temples, but it was also Mother’s Day.
Lyn woke up feeling extra affectionate. She put on a lovely yellow spring dress with tiny white flowers. Since she didn't have children of her own, she decided to treat her beloved pets, Star and Pinkysan, like her daughters for the day. Star looked adorable in a bright orange dress, and Pinkysan wore her favorite floral collar. Linda joined them, looking elegant in a green blouse and a long denim maong skirt.
They started their morning at the local church for Sunday Mass. The group listened attentively to the Gospel, which spoke about love and kindness. After the service, the air felt festive and warm.
"Let’s go to Nara Park!" Lyn suggested. "The 'girls' want to see the deer!"
Nara Park was vibrant with green spring grass. As soon as they arrived, the famous bowing deer approached them. Star, the Akita Inu, was surprisingly brave. She stood perfectly still as a young deer sniffed her orange dress. Pinkysan watched safely from the bench, her eyes wide with curiosity.
Suddenly, a voice called out, "Lyn-san? Is that you?"
Lyn turned around and felt her heart skip a beat. Standing there was John, the handsome Japanese man she had met at the hotel! He was dressed casually in a light blazer, looking even more charming in the sunlight.
"John! What a surprise!" Lyn exclaimed, her face turning a soft shade of pink. She quickly introduced him to Linda. "Linda, this is my new friend, John."
John smiled warmly. "Happy Mother’s Day to you both. I see you brought your 'daughters' to the park." He laughed gently, petting Star’s head. John loved animals, and he had brought a stack of shika-senbei (deer crackers).
They all sat together on a wooden bench near the five-story pagoda. John handed some crackers to Lyn and Linda so they could feed the deer together. As they sat and talked, Lyn realized how easy it was to chat with him. They laughed about hotel stories and their favorite places in Nara.
However, the peaceful moment turned into a fun event when John gave a cracker to Star. Seeing the food, three large deer suddenly surrounded the dog! Star, usually very brave, wasn't used to being the center of attention for hungry deer. She let out a small Woof! and began to trot away. The deer, thinking it was a game, followed her in a slow parade!
"Star, come back!" Lyn laughed, watching her dog in an orange dress being "chased" by deer.
After the excitement, John bought everyone delicious strawberry mochi. They ate the sweet treats while watching the sunset turn the sky into a masterpiece of orange and purple.
When it was time to go, John walked them back to their house. "I had a wonderful time today," he said sincerely at the front door. "May I visit you all again soon?"
Lyn smiled brightly, her bangs dancing in the evening breeze. "We would love that, John. See you soon!"
As the door closed, Linda teased Lyn about her new friend, but Lyn just hugged Star and Pinkysan. It was truly the most perfect Mother’s Day she could have imagined.
