Lyn's New Beginning and A New Friend

2026-05-07

Monday morning arrived with a bright, clear sky. For Lyn, this wasn't just any Monday—it was her very first day working as a receptionist at the Hotel.

Lyn stood before her mirror, feeling a mix of nerves and excitement. She wore her new professional uniform: a sharp navy blue blazer and a matching skirt. She carefully pinned a small, sparkling silver clip into her light brown hair to keep her bangs perfectly in place.

"You look so professional, Lyn!" Linda said, walking into the room. Linda was already busy with morning chores, wearing a comfortable brown house dress and a crisp white apron.

Lyn smiled and grabbed her bag. Before heading to the door, she gave a big "Good morning!" to her family. Star, the Akita Inu, wagged her tail while wearing a pretty green dress, and Pinkysan, the calico cat, stretched lazily on the rug. As Lyn walked down the path, the three of them stood by the window and waved goodbye.

The hotel was even busier than Lyn expected. The lobby was filled with the sounds of rolling suitcases and people speaking many different languages. Lyn met her new co-workers, who were very kind and taught her how to use the check-in system. By 10:00 AM, Lyn was busy handling a "dense crowd" of travelers.

Suddenly, a young man walked up to the reception desk. He was Japanese, with a kind face and a very warm smile. When Lyn looked up, she froze. He was incredibly handsome!

"Good morning," the man said in a soft, polite voice. "I have a reservation under the name John."

Lyn felt her face turn as peach-colored as her favorite jumper dress. She tried to speak, but her words got stuck in her throat. "H-hello! Welcome to... I mean... yes! John!" she stammered, her heart racing.

John didn't mind at all. He gave her a gentle smile that reached his eyes. "It’s a very busy day, isn't it? You’re doing a great job," he said. Lyn felt her nervousness melt away. They talked for a few minutes about the local sights in Nara, and she realized John was not only handsome but also very friendly. By the time he headed to his room, they had become fast friends.

When Lyn finally arrived home that evening, she was bursting with news. The house smelled wonderful because Linda had prepared a special celebration dinner. They sat down to a delicious meal of grilled salmon, hot miso soup, and a fresh salad of crunchy cucumbers and bright red tomatoes.

"So, how was the first day?" Linda asked as she served the salmon.

Lyn’s eyes sparkled. "It was busy, Linda! But the best part was meeting a new friend named John. He was so nice to me even when I was nervous."

Linda giggled. "A new male friend? How exciting!"

While the two women talked and laughed, Star and Pinkysan enjoyed their own feast nearby. Star munched happily on her favorite premium dog food (Gulp, chomp!), and Pinkysan purred as she ate her favorite cat treats. It was a perfect end to a monumental day. Lyn had a new career, a new friend, and the best family to come home to.
