The Case Of Sleeping Cat

2026-06-15

Happy Monday! Today’s story takes us on a frantic morning search that ends with a cozy, heartwarming evening.

The alarm clock buzzed loudly on Monday morning. Pretty Lyn—with her neat bangs and long, light brown hair—woke up early with a burst of energy. Today was a workday, so she quickly dressed in her smart, pressed hotel uniform. However, when she peered out the window, her heart sank. It was raining cats and dogs.

“I absolutely need to bring an umbrella today,” Lyn muttered, glancing at the clock. She was running dangerously close to being late.

She walked over to the entryway umbrella stand, but her favorite pink umbrella was nowhere to be found. Lyn searched everywhere. She checked behind the sofa, inside the hallway closets, and even under her bed, but the umbrella had completely disappeared.

Panicking as the minutes ticked away, she looked at her loyal Shiba Inu. “Star, please help me! Where is my pink umbrella?”

Sensing the urgency, Star let out a sharp bark and began running around the house, her nose close to the floor. She trotted out the back door and into the small garage in the backyard. Suddenly, Star stopped and let out a joyful whine.

Lyn hurried over to the garage and froze, completely stunned. There, tucked neatly behind some boxes, was her open pink umbrella. And curled up perfectly inside the soft fabric bowl was Pinkysan! The little calico cat was sleeping soundly, purring like a tiny motor, totally unaware of the chaos she had caused.

Lyn couldn’t help but burst into laughter alongside Star. “Pinkysan! Why on earth did you choose my umbrella for your morning nap?” she giggled. She gently scooped up the sleepy cat, closed the umbrella, and sprinted out the gate to catch the morning train to the hotel.

At the hotel, it was another incredibly busy day of checking in guests and managing reservations. During her break, Lyn met up with handsome John in the staff dining room for lunch. As they ate, she told John the whole story about why she had almost been late that morning. John laughed so hard his shoulders shook. Both of them kept laughing, imagining how comfortable Pinkysan must have looked enjoying her nap inside the pink umbrella.

The heavy rain continued to fall relentlessly until it was finally time for Lyn to clock out and head home. As she walked down the street under her pink umbrella, the grey evening felt a bit lonely—until she reached her front gate.

There, standing side by side under the shelter of the porch, were Star and Pinkysan, eagerly waiting for her return. Feeling completely delighted after a long day of work, Lyn dropped her bag and warmly hugged her two beloved pets.

Inside, the house smelled amazing. Linda had prepared big, steaming bowls of hot ramen, the perfect meal for a cold, rainy evening. Safe inside, the family enjoyed their dinner, thankful for warm food and the funny little surprises of a rainy Monday.
