The Golden Week Grand Finale
It was the final Sunday of Golden Week, the last golden day of the holiday. In the house in Nara, everyone was full of bittersweet energy. Holiday was almost over, but they wanted one last big adventure.
"Okay, Team! Today is our Golden Week Grand Finale!" Lyn announced, her bangs perfectly in place. Lyn looked casual but stylish in a crisp white t-shirt and light blue jeans. Linda was ready for a dynamic day in a gray t-shirt and dark blue maong pants.
"Today, we are going to the famous Ikoma Amusement Park!" Lyn cheered.
The announcement caused instant excitement. The four best friends quickly prepared. Star, the large and mighty Akita Inu, knew "Amusement Park" meant fun. She trotted over to Lyn, wagging her tail. Since it was the final holiday event, Star was wearing a new denim jumper over her harness, her tail swishing happily. Pinkysan, the elegant calico, watched the preparation from a sunny windowsill, deciding which "first-class seat" (a tote bag or a shoulder) she would occupy today.
They packed water and snacks into their tote bags and headed to the train station.
The Golden Week holiday ends with a rush, and today, the train was packed. When the silver Kintetsu train arrived, the carriage was already a dense sea of people. It was crowded and loud, a true dense crowd of holiday travelers.
"Stay close, Linda," Lyn said, stepping carefully into the cramped space. The four of them were squeezed tightly between other passengers.
For a large dog like Star, the crowded train was difficult. It was easy to accidentally trip on people’s feet. But Linda had a special training lesson for today.
Linda knelt down slightly in the cramped aisle. "Okay, Star. This is our holiday crowd test! Perfectly still among the crowds. Perfectly perfectly perfectly!" She gave a hand signal for "Sit."
Star obeyed instantly. She tucked her large paws under her chest and sat up with incredible posture. She was a calm, sturdy rock in the middle of the noisy, swaying sea of people. Even when a man in a rush almost bumped into her, Star remained solid and didn't bark. A nearby passenger smiled. "What a well-mannered dog!" they said. Good dog sit still! Star thought, proud that her perfect sitting was a good lesson. Denim Star perfectly! Perfectly among the crowds! Linda beamed with pride, patting the loyal Akita.
Pinkysan, observing the packed crowd from her secure spot in Lyn's shoulder tote, decided this crowded train was a strange "cat-lesson." She looked down at a baby crying nearby, purring with a calm bravery. Indeed camping! Indeed crowded!
Finally, the train reached Ikoma Station. The four friends spilled out onto the platform and quickly navigated the station to the cable car entrance. Wrooom! A colorful, red and white Panda Cable Car (named "Mee-san") pull up! The entire group was giddy with happiness. Panda car! Cable car so flowery!
They boarded, and the cable car began its steady, steep climb up Mt. Ikoma. Everyone clapped their hands in pure joy! Through the large windows, the city of Nara began to shrink. Below them lay a magnificent view of the entire valley, covered in fresh spring greenery.
When they reached the amusement park at the top, the real fun began! It was a nostalgic, peaceful park. Their first stop was the vintage Merry-Go-Round. Lyn chose a magnificent white horse with a golden mane. She waved happily at Linda, who was sitting gracefully on a colorful carriage seat next to her, Pinkysan perched regally on Linda’s lap. Clap! Wiggle! Stroll! Indeed happy! Indeed pretty horse!
After the horses, they found a gentle "Boat in the River" ride. They all sat together in a small blue boat as it drifted slowly down a narrow, winding stream surrounded by flowers and cherry trees. The water looked like sparkling bento food in the sun! River river river river! River boat perfectly!
It was a day full of simple joy, laughs, and new experiences. When the sun began to set, they rode the Panda Cable Car back down, the city lights beginning to twinkle. Golden Week was over, but this perfect day of crowds, cable cars, and merry-go-rounds was a golden memory they would treasure forever. Aki-san Golden Week perfectly! indeed happy!
