The Secret of Golden Leaf

2026-05-24

Sunday morning arrived with cloudless skies and a gentle, warm breeze. In the living room, Lyn made an exciting announcement. "Today, we are visiting a beautiful green tea farm in the hills of Nara! It is finally time for the Shincha harvest!"

Upon hearing the news, Star and Pinkysan literally jumped with joy. It was their very first time visiting a tea plantation! The two pets looked adorable, dressed up in matching light green dresses that perfectly mirrored the fresh colors of late spring.

While the pets celebrated, Linda was busy in the kitchen acting as the organized coordinator. She wore a comfortable cream-colored blouse and classic blue jeans. She carefully packed a picnic basket with fresh egg-salad sandwiches, crisp napkins, and a large pitcher of refreshing orange juice to keep everyone hydrated during their outdoor excursion.

Lyn looked exceptionally bright and energetic for the trip. Her long, light brown hair was tied back neatly with a cheerful yellow ribbon, and her signature bangs framed her smiling face. She wore a vibrant yellow long-sleeve blouse tucked into classic denim maong pants.

When they arrived at the plantation, a breathtaking sight greeted them. The rolling hills were covered in neat, curved rows of bright green tea bushes, stretching out like a velvety carpet toward a distant five-story pagoda. The air carried a uniquely crisp, grassy, and sweet aroma.

As they walked along the narrow paths between the bushes, Lyn pointed to the very tips of the plants, where tiny, bright golden-green leaves were sprouting.

"These top leaves are used to make Shincha, which means 'new tea' or the first harvest of the year," Lyn explained enthusiastically to her attentive audience.

Linda listened with interest while holding a small bamboo basket filled with freshly plucked leaves. Even Star and Pinkysan sat perfectly still, tilting their heads as if they understood every word of the lesson.

"Why is the first harvest so special, Lyn?" Linda asked.

"Because these leaves grew slowly during the cold winter months," Lyn answered with a wide smile. "They store up a massive amount of nutrients and natural sweetness. Shincha is incredibly healthy because it is packed with vitamin C and powerful antioxidants that protect our bodies from sickness. Drinking it gives you instant energy and peace of mind!"

After the educational walking tour, they gathered on a wooden veranda overlooking the scenic hills. They laid out the picnic mat, poured the sweet orange juice, and enjoyed their delicious sandwiches. Star wagged her tail happily in the warm sunshine, and Pinkysan purred while sniffing a fresh green leaf. Learning about Japan’s rich tea culture together made it the most perfect, unforgettable Sunday afternoon.
