Weathering Storm Together

The Monday morning sun was completely hidden behind a thick blanket of grey clouds. After finishing their breakfast, Pretty Lyn—with her neat bangs and long, light brown hair—sat in the living room listening closely to the television. Suddenly, the news anchor’s voice turned serious: “A category‑four typhoon has shifted course and is heading directly toward our region. Residents must prepare immediately.”

Lyn stood up, her expression tightening. “Linda, we have to prepare right now,” she called out.

Linda rushed in, ready for action. Together with Star, the alert female Shiba Inu, and Pinkysan, the clever female calico cat, the entire team gathered in the backyard. Before they began, Lyn stood by the veranda to emphasize a crucial point.

“Listen up, team,” Lyn explained. “Storm safety isn’t just about waiting inside; it’s about preventing damage before the wind hits. Weak objects can become dangerous projectiles in high winds. We need to work together to secure our home.”

Lyn efficiently assigned tasks to everyone. She looked down at her furry companions. “Star, Pinkysan, your job is to clear the ground. Help us move the empty clay pots, gardening trowels, and plastic tools into the locked shed.”

Star barked softly as if she understood, gripping the handle of a small plastic bucket in her mouth and carrying it away. Pinkysan used her nimble paws to roll smaller plastic starter pots across the grass and straight into the shed. They worked tirelessly, clearing the lawn in no time.

Meanwhile, Linda grabbed the pruning shears. She carefully trimmed weak, dangling tree branches that could snap and smash through a window. She also took down the hanging flower baskets and wind chimes from the porch ceiling, placing them safely on the ground.

While Linda secured the air, Lyn focused on the perimeter. She walked along the wooden fence with a toolbox, checking the posts. Finding a few loose planks, she used a screwdriver to tighten the rusted screws, making sure the fence could withstand the incoming gales.

Once the outside was safe and secure, the team moved inside to complete the rest of their preparations. Lyn focused on protecting their most important belongings. She gathered family documents, identification cards, and expensive electronics, sealing them inside waterproof plastic bins and placing them on the highest shelf.

At the same time, Linda managed the emergency supplies. She gathered bright flashlights, fresh batteries, portable power banks, and a fully stocked first‑aid kit on the kitchen counter. Then she opened the pantry to check their emergency rations, counting several cases of bottled mineral water and rows of non‑perishable canned food.

As the first heavy raindrops began to rattle against the reinforced windows, Lyn’s team gathered on the sofa. They were tired from the hard work, but they felt completely calm. Because they had prepared thoroughly and worked as a true team, they knew they could weather any storm together.
