The Rainy Flowers and Garden Dance
Saturday morning brought a soft, misty weather to Nara. It was the peak of the rainy season, which meant the entire garden was transformed into a brilliant sea of blue, purple, and pink. It was finally time for the ajisai, or hydrangea, to shine.
Lyn sat comfortably on a wooden chair on the covered veranda, looking relaxed in a bright yellow house dress. Her light brown hair was now cut to a stylish shoulder length, and her neat bangs framed her smiling face. Beside her, Star the Akita Inu and Pinkysan the calico cat sat patiently. Both pets looked incredibly charming, wearing matching grey dresses for the quiet morning.
Soon, Linda stepped out onto the terrace carrying a wooden tray. She looked lovely in a flowing blue dress, her long brown hair swaying gently. On the tray were four steaming cups of warm coffee. As they sat together, the rich aroma of the coffee mixed perfectly with the fresh, earthy scent of the rain.
"Look at the ajisai today," Lyn said, pointing toward the garden. "They love the rain! Did you know there are many different varieties? Some of the flower heads grow so massive, they are literally the same size as my face!"
Linda burst into laughter, and even the pets tilted their heads as if they found the comparison hilarious.
"It’s true!" Lyn giggled, taking a sip of her warm drink.
Wanting to investigate this claim, Pinkysan carefully hopped down from the veranda and trotted into the light rain. She walked right up to a magnificent bush of deep blue hydrangeas. With incredible agility, Pinkysan stood up on her hind legs and began to dance gracefully right next to a giant flower cluster. The flower was indeed exactly the same size as the little cat!
Lyn and Linda clapped their hands, completely captivated by Pinkysan’s pure cuteness. Seeing her friend having so much fun, Star could not resist joining the excitement. The large Akita Inu trotted down the steps, her grey dress swishing as she began to leap and spin dynamically around the bushes, dancing happily in the gentle downpour.
Suddenly, the garden gate opened, and John arrived. Seeing the animals performing their rainy-day routine, a wide smile spread across his face. Without a moment of hesitation, John opened his umbrella and leaped into the garden. He began to twirl his umbrella and dance comically along with Star and Pinkysan.
From the dry terrace, Lyn and Linda watched the wonderful spectacle, laughing until their sides hurt while enjoying their warm coffee. The light summer rain kept falling, but the garden was completely filled with the warmth of friendship, laughter, and the beautiful colors of Japan's favorite rainy flower.
